Suprabatham Allaripu

Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA - What an incredibly moving and thoughtful submission. This piece, which is an Indian Classical Bharathanatyum Piece titled ' Suprabatham Allaripu' was supposed to be performed at a festival on March 24th. I love the way that performer Zhen-Zhu Chandrasekaran described it in the submission:

This piece is performed by myself, (Zhen-Zhu) and my dance partner and cousin Guruvayur Krithika Ramachandran. This piece is very dear to our hearts, and was to be performed today (24th Mar) for Malaysia's MyDance Alliance Annual 'Dancebox Showcase' at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC). We were extremely saddened by the cancellation of the show due to Covid-19, as this was going to be our first performance at this esteemed event and venue. Therefore, we would be so hopeful, appreciative and grateful for your support in showcasing this piece to an online audience.

Allaripu, means ‘to bloom’ and it consists of movements that demonstrate the technical ability of a dancer, while it depicts the beautiful transition of a bud blooming into a flower, while being performed to syllables set to a beat, or ‘Tala’. In this piece, the Allaripu has been intertwined with verses from the ‘Venkatesa Suprabatham’, where according to Hindu mythology, Lord Venkatesa or Lord Vishnu is believed to be the preserver and protector of the universe. These verses are set in the form of a hymn, and allows the dancers and audience to immerse themselves in its ennobling and soul elevating qualities.
