Matchstick Theatre’s “N89”

London, UK - Matchstick Theatre Company is a group of 11 South London theatre-makers looking to create provocative, entertaining, unusual theatre, with a focus on new writing and original voices. Their production of “N89” was supposed to run from March 9th - April 2nd, but they were forced to close after just five performances due to Covid-19. However, they recorded the show on the last night, and have since put it online. The play is a hilarious and heart-warming comedy set on the N89 bus. At 1am, Kim and Daniel get on the bus as strangers, but go on quite the journey together. Along the road, they meet a host of classic South London characters everyone will recognise. The play subtly examines the intersectionality of race, class and gentrification in London. The space is designed to feel like the top deck of the N89, and the show is interactive, with the audience siting on the top deck with the cast, and becoming part of the journey.
