Navigate - Physical Theatre Performance by Sarah Stearns

BARCELONA, SPAIN

From Sarah’s submission:

This piece, entitled “Navigate” was last performed at the Mutis XI Festival in Barcelona on Saturday March 8. Just one week later, we were slated to start rehearsals for a new, 45 minute version of the piece which has been booked for the Prague Fringe May 22-26, and one other festival in another EU country which has yet to be officially announced.

After Spain went into lockdown on Friday March 13th, the remainder of the Mutis XI festival was canceled including the awards ceremony and rehearsals for Navigate have been canceled until further notice. As of now, the Prague Fringe and the other May festival are still set to go forward, but with the uncertainty and canceled rehearsals, as well as a canceled launch party and fundraiser, Navigate’s future is up in the air.

From Sarah’s website:

Tying my work together is the narrative thread of my own experience of the world. I moved from the US to Europe in 2015, changing country at a time when many face violence for trying to do the same. In my own adventures through the red tape of residency and work permits, I encounter again and again the question of borders and who gets to cross them. As a woman moving through the world on her own, I seek out instances of women as neutral storytellers and as complex human beings.

We love Sarah’s story, and we hope many more audiences get to see “Navigate”. In the meantime, check out this 15-minute video of the piece in Spanish (with English subtitles).
