Concerts for Babies

Leiria, PORTUGAL - Paulo Lameiro, a Portuguese musicologist, educator, and communicator, created this delightful group dedicated to performing concerts for families with children up to three years old. Monteverdi, Bach and Mozart are the main hosts of a very wide range of composers, from classical to jazz, from traditional Portuguese music to world music, from electronics to improvisation and dances with parents and babies. These concerts have been performed around the world and at some of the main concert halls and festivals in Europe. Due to coronavirus, many of these concerts were canceled and it is not clear when “Concerts for Babies” will be able to return to stage. They have recorded their first live stream concert from March 5. It is an attempt to recreate what babies and families could have experienced in the concerts that, unfortunately, they were not able to perform.   Other concerts can be found here and here. The group has also provided a very helpful Parent Guide in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Musicians include Alberto Roque (baritone saxophone and ocarina), José Lopes (alto saxophone and “cavaquinho”), Pedro Santos (accordion), Isabel Catarino (vocals), Cristiana Francisco (vocals), Paulo Lameiro (vocals and conductor), and invited soloist Daniel Reis (Hang).
