Jäjé

Toronto, CANADA - Breaking apart traditional visual structures of the english language somehow feels most natural when discussing our most carnal feelings. We’re very excited to bring you these poetic excerpts from this great artist, Jäjé!

FROM THE ARTIST:

Brunch Erotica is an unreleased collection of short erotic poems that explore the intricacies of sex, encompassing both the visceral and metaphysical occurrences that happen when we decide to intertwine our own sexual energy with another's. As an avid reader and lover of poetry, I often come across erotica that 's very brazen in its depiction of various types of sexual encounters. While this paints a vividly accurate montage of familiar circumstance, I always felt myself longing for the use of language that lent to a more sensual experience and was ultimately more poetic. With this project I wanted to present readers with erotica that could eloquently explore a perspective of sex that didn't revolve solely around rudimentary satisfaction, but instead focused on the overall sensuous nature of the act itself'. Enjoy these excerpts from Brunch Erotica and be sure to stay tuned for its release!

About the Artist: Jäjé is a multidisciplinary artist, whose work ranges from film and television to numerous staged productions and live performances. Her entry into the performance arts began at the tender age of 3, under the tutelage of the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre. As a professionally trained dancer and graduate of Rosedale Heights School of the Arts, Jäjé's artistry extends through her capabilities within various vocal styles, acting and her love of poetry.

Her unique ethno-cultural perspective, stemming from her Trinidadian heritage, coupled with her artistic capabilities within each individual discipline allow for an intriguing intersection of various art forms. Through her distinct expressions of creativity, Jäjé strives to normalize all forms of vulnerability in order to inspire others around her to embrace and express who they truly are.

On COVID: As a creative the very epicentre of what we do revolves around our ability to express ourselves with little to no inhibitions. Being stripped of that very ability in of itself was an extremely tedious task to overcome, most especially because all of my plans, that I had finally set into motion after a period of stagnance, came to a crashing halt. Initially I was understandably frustrated and impatient, but eventually I realized that I could continue to sulk over what I couldn't change, or take control of what I could! Suffice to say; this pandemic predominantly impacted me on an emotional level. Highlighting the importance of being able to slow down and being open to readjusting one's focus.
