“I’m a Big Sissy and I’m Proud” from The Sissy Duckling

Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - Well this post goes right after my heart! Nothing like an uplifting, progressive TYA musical song to make you feel like all is going to be okay in this world.

From the submission by Jay Whitehead on behalf of Theatre Outré:

The Sissy Duckling is a NEW original musical for children based on the children’s book of the same name by Harvey Fierstein and adapted for the stage by Nicola Elson.  It tells the story of Elmer, the sissy duckling, who isn’t like the other boy ducklings.  He’d rather bake cakes and play dress up than play baseball or fix cars!  When he’s had enough of being called a ’sissy’ by his school mates and even by his own father, he runs away to woods where he spends the winter learning valuable lessons about himself and others and ultimately realizing that he’s “a big sissy and he’s proud!”   Based on the book by Harvey Fierstein, the lyrics to this song were written by Nicola Elson and the music composed by Rylan Kunkel, Erica Barr, Greg Wilson, Shannon Murphy and Nicola Elson. This production was scheduled to have its world premiere in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada from March 26 -29, 2020 and has now been postponed due to the COVID-19 Outbreak.
