“Inside-Out”

Santa Rosa, USA - This is from the submission of this fascinating and thought-provoking project: "Inside-Out" features four of my large-scale oil paintings that explore our relationships with our bodies. I am particularly interested in how that relationship is informed, shaped or colored by psychology, visual culture and the medical industry. Paint, as a medium mimics the physical properties the body (organic, soft, viscous) and also the plasticity of the body (carries multiple meanings). Painting and collaging are processes of discovery. Through making I more deeply understand the nuances of myself and the world I find myself in. Sampling the observable world, imagery from mainstream media and my own mental catalogue of visuals, I assemble figures, objects and environments that embody the thrilling or tumultuous relationship between the self and her body. This exhibition was originally planned to start mid-April in the storefronts of the San Francisco Parks Alliance office on the Fillmore Plaza. Project Coordinator Danyce Camp and I had begun to plan a block party and opening reception in the Fillmore Plaza. Our plans were halted once schools were closed in mid-March due to the Corona Virus.
