From the submission:

Due to preventative measures around COVID-19, Braata Productions has had to indefinitely postpone its production of Welcome to America: A Caribbean Musical at The Milton Bassin Performing Arts Center York College (Jamaica, Queens) on March 28, 2020. At the time of postponement, the production was in its final weeks of rehearsal before beginning technical rehearsals at York College, where the piece received a prior sold-out engagement in 2017. Like the last iteration, this production was expected to sell at full capacity, this time in the venue’s larger theatre, reaching approximately 1,300 audience members in the neighbourhood of Jamaica, Queens and beyond.

Welcome to America tells the story of Sabrina Barnes, a talented and ambitious ingénue actress from the Caribbean, who leaves her home behind and arrives in America determined to pursue her dreams of stardom. However, she is soon hit with the harsh realities of life in her newly adopted country and finds not only her ambitions but her very existence in the United States in grave peril. It is a powerful catalyst for community conversation surrounding the struggles and triumphs of Caribbean immigrants and their contributions to the American landscape.
